EDMOND — Elizabeth Dickerson knows exactly when she got the initial idea for her new Web-based business — June 5, 1999.

She remembers the exact date because it was her wedding day.

"I was very nervous at the wedding," Dickerson said. "I sniffed my bouquet and it relaxed me."

That relaxing wedding moment was the base for her new Edmond-based business — Wedding Day Bouquet.com. The Web site, weddingdaybouquet.com, allows customers to customize a combination of products — perfume, lotion and shower gel — based on fragrances of the wedding flowers.

She launched the Web site about four months ago. The University of Oklahoma graduate and Tulsa native traveled the country as a trip director for Carlson Marketing Group for 13 years. She left that job about a year ago to concentrate on Wedding Day Bouquet.com.

"I had been working on the idea for about four years," Dickerson said.

"We had to have the fire inspector and the tax commission come by for inspections before we started production," she said.

Dickerson has two part-time employees.

She gets the bottles for her products from a company in China through a broker in California. The base ingredients for the perfume, lotion and shower gel comes from a luxury spa company in California.

The scents for the products come from seven different companies around the country. Labels are printed on special oil- and water-resistant paper.

Dickerson researched flowers most used in weddings. The different flowers are listed on the Web site.

"Customers go to the Web site and click on the flowers they will have in the wedding and then I create a scent using those flowers," she said.

WeddingDayBouquet.com offers 0.5-ounce bottles of the lotion, perfume and shower gel for personalized wedding favors. Full-size products are also available — 2 ounces for the perfume and 4.5 ounces for the bath gel and lotion — and are offered in different packages.

Each acrylic bottle's label includes the first names of the bride and groom, the wedding date and the flowers in the bride's bouquet or a personal message.

The products are only offered on the Web site, she said. Dickerson has received orders from around the country. Orders are delivered by UPS. Web sites in other languages may be created in the future, she said.

While weddings were the basis for creating the company, Dickerson said the products can also be created for other occasions such as anniversaries and holidays.

Current marketing efforts are online and word-of-mouth, she said. Dickerson also plans to attend Bridal shows in Oklahoma and around the country.

The customized products are created to help couples remember their wedding.

"The fragrance of flowers is a wonderful way to capture the romantic memories of a wedding," she said. "I relive my wedding day every time I smell flowers that were in my bridal bouquet."
